Njomo asked the opposition to allow the agencies mandated to fight graft to address the issue.

Addressing journalists in Kiambu Town on Friday, Njomo said the opposition’s call for demonstrations is out of order.

The lawmaker said the move will paralyse activities in Nairobi and adjacent towns, adding that the opposition should allow graft matters to be handled in a procedural manner.

On Friday, the opposition said it will hold demonstrations on Tuesday next week if Health Cabinet Secretary Cleophas Mailu and his Principal Secretary (PS) Nicholas Muraguri will not have resigned by Monday.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga said Kenyans are fed up with the Jubilee government’s failure to curb graft.

“We are giving the Health CS and PS three days to quit office, failure to which we (opposition) will be on the streets on Tuesday next week,” said Wandayi as quoted by the Star.

The two politicians said that the opposition will mobilize over one million Kenyans to participate in the demonstrations.

On Thursday, human rights activists held demos to protest against the alleged scam, but were however repulsed by armed anti-riot police officers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the opposition of using the graft issue to gain political mileage.
