Njomo claims that opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga are plotting to use early campaigns to interfere with the government’s development manifesto.

Speaking to journalists when he presided over a graduation ceremony at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology on Monday, Njomo took issue with the referendum campaigns that are being spearheaded by Cord.

He said that the campaigns are being used propaganda and as a tool to discredit President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

“The referendum calls and campaigns by Cord are not insincere, there is a hidden agenda which is to discredit the government and sabotage government’s development,” he alleged.

The Kiambu MP said Cord has failed as an opposition and is looking for ways of salvaging itself.

“We all know that the calls for a referendum by Odinga and his friends are a campaign tool for 2017,” said Njomo.

The Kiambu lawmaker asked Cord to play clean politics and stop using tricks that will backfire.

He said that as the opposition, Cord should help the government to address some of the challenges instead of criticizing it.

“No government can be perfect and that’s why there is always and opposition to help when matters get worse,” he said.

Cord leaders have started countrywide campaigns aimed at marshalling support for a referendum.

On Monday, the Coalition was in Machakos town seeking people’s support on the referendum.
