Kiambu MP Jude Njomo has urged the national government to put in place strict measures that will curb cheating in national examination set to begin next week.

Njomo says that the government has to assure candidates on the integrity of the examination scheduled to start from next week.

Speaking at Benson Njau primary school on Monday when he handed examination material to candidates preparing for national examination, Njomo said that for a long time the country has been grappling with examination malpractices which he said needs to be stamped out.

“The government through the Ministry of Education and stakeholders must guarantee integrity of the national examinations that starts next week,” he said.

The lawmaker urged the government to deploy enough supervisors and invigilators for the administration of the examinations.

He also asked the government to boost security during the examination period.

Meanwhile, Njomo has promised to sponsor candidates who will perform exemplary in the national examinations. He said that best candidates will be sponsored through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty.

The Kiambu lawmaker also said that exemplary candidates will get scholarships to study abroad.

The national examination is set to start next week.

The Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) will start on November 1, 2016 and end three days later while the Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) will start on November 7 and end on November 30, 2016.

The government says that preparations for the examination have been completed.

In April this year Education CS Fred Matiang’i introduced a raft of measures aimed at curbing examination malpractices in the national examinations.
