Dairy farmers in Njoro netted close to Sh20 million in profits in 2014.
This was revealed today by the Nakuru county government chief officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Purity Wanja when she commissioned milk cooling and processing equipment donated by World Bank to a local dairy farming cooperative society.
Wanja noted that group savings, investments consultacy and marketing among dairy farmers in Njoro had enabled them to double their profits in recent years and pledged more government support.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate dairy farmers in Njoro for their continued improvement over the years in terms of productivity and income. This is because of their collective savings, investments, consultations and marketing plans. Statistics shows that last year the farmers earned Sh20million in profits from their produce,” Wanja said.
Wanja said that this was very encouraging, and that the government would continue supporting farmers who worked as a group to elevate their agricultural activities.
The county executive on the other hand warned cooperatives managers against mismanaging members’ resources noting that the ministry would independently seek the punishment of corrupt cooperatives managers if it meant protecting the interests of farmers in the county.
