Good Samaritans at Kenyatta village in Njoro on Thursday rescued an ailing 70-year-old woman who was about to drown in Njoro river after falling off a bridge. Witnesses said that the granny, who was alone, was on her way to the nearby Njoro medical centre, on the Nakuru-Narok road, when the incident occurred. Philip Njoroge, a boda boda operator, said that as he rode near the bridge, he saw the elderly woman dithering at the edge before falling into the river. He said he had acted quickly to save the granny from drowning. “I stopped my motorbike and in time went into the river and grabbed her to safety,” he said. “She was weak and said she was going to a clinic in Njoro town.” Njoroge added that other boda boda riders who operate near the riverside stage came and assisted him to move the granny along the road where they met a relative who took her to hospital in Njoro town.
