Njoro Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Kiuna has called on politicians from the Rift Valley region to desist from making inflammatory utterance.
Speaking on Wednesday at Njoro Town, Nakuru County during a public meeting, Kiuna urged local leaders to instead cultivate a sense of unity.
“Politicians from Rift Valley should work at enhancing stability instead of causing animosity among the cosmopolitan tribes,” said Kiuna.
Kiuna noted that the region is a cattle-rustling prone zone and urged leaders to look for a permanent solution to the problem.
The legislator, however, said those fuelling tribal violence will have to face the full force of the law.
“Some politicians have been behind the violence in this region including cattle-rustling and I warn them that stern legal action will be taken against them,” said Kiuna.
He called on those engaging in unlawful means of eking a living like cattle rustling to stop and indulge in fair economic activities.
Kiuna assured the residents that the government would continue protecting them and their property.
“The government will not relent in its effort to safeguard the lives of residents and their property,” said Kiuna.
The lawmaker challenged residents to support the government in bringing peace to volatile zones in Rift Valley.
