Business owners and residents of Njoro township have faulted the county government for failing to consider sanitation services in the area and want public toilets to be put up to improve sanitation standards.
Speaking to our reporter on Saturday in the town, Njoro Traders Welfare group Chairman Julius Kimani, said the town lacks public toilets forcing the residents to use bushes and other opens places to relive themselves.
He said the situation is exposing residents to unhygienic practices, a situation that lowers sanitation standards.
“We want our MCAs to address this issue urgently. What kind of projects do the Ward Development Fund sponsor if a fast growing urban centre like this one lack simple amenities like public toilets?” asked Kimani.
Peter Muchai, a matatu driver along Njoro-Elburgon route said commuters and matatu operators are forced to use bushes near the railway line to relieve themselves because of lack of public toilets.
“The area around the bushes is very dirty and can be dangerous to the environment and spread of diseases. Something should be done,” said Kimani.
