Njoro youth have been urged to shun radicalisation and extremism and instead promote national cohesion.
Njoro coordinator of Youth for Peace, Dorcas Kariuki said her agency is working with both levels of governments to educate the youth on the dangers of radicalisation.
“We are working with devolved units and the national government to create awareness among youth who are vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism, and encouraging them to promote national values," said Kariuki.
Kariuki urged youth to understand and recognise the risks and vulnerabilities of radicalisation.
She spoke on Saturday in Njoro town to over 200 youth during a meeting to create awareness among youth on the dangers of radicalisation.
“Youth have a responsibility of shunning radicalisation and extremism which have been causing horr0r in our country including lose of innocent lives," she said.
She also called on society to play its part in condemning radicalisation .
“Society should be in front line of condemning those who radicalise and display threatening behaviour, incite hatred or promote the use of violence," said Kariuki.
“The family, religious, community leaders, or law enforceres should always preach national values to deter radicalisation,” she added.
She revealed that her agency will roll out a programme in other counties to educate young people on the dangers of radicalisation.
“We will move to all the counties playing a vital role in assisting youth to shun violent extremism and intervening to stop acts of violenc," said Kariuki.
