Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has asked county commissioners across the country to ensure security is guaranteed in their areas of representation.
In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Nkaissery asked the commissioners to put in place security measures that will guarantee security of the citizens.
The Interior CS said the national government will work with counties to boost security especially ahead of the festive season.
“We are urging county commissioners and security apparatus across the counties to be alert and dedicate their time and resources to protect Kenyans,” said Nkaissery in the statement.
The CS on the same note cautioned youths against being lured to join militant groups. He said that the government is on alert and will fight any form of radicalisation.
At the same time, Nkaissery observed that at least 700 youths who had joined militant groups have surrendered to security officials since the government granted an Amnesty in April this year.
Nkaissery said the amnesty is still own and urged radicalised youths to denounce violence and agitate for peace.
Meanwhile, Kiambu deputy county commissioner Nobert Komora has asked youths to shun crime and work with the police to provide security.
Komora says that youths stand to gain if they work with their leaders instead of engaging in criminal acts.
The county deputy commissioner who addressed youths at Thika Town on Tuesday said the county is committed to streamline security.
He assured locals of their safety ahead of the December festive season.
