Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has declared Monday September 12, 2016 as a public holiday.
In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, Nkaissery said the day will be used to mark Idd-ul-Adha.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, Interior CS Joseph Nkaisserry declares that Monday, September 12, 2016, be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Adha,” read the statement in part.
Eid-ul-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah's (God's) command to sacrifice his son Ishmael.
The holiday, known as the Feast of Sacrifice represents the end of Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia that lasts three to four days.
