Early April this year, a video surfaced showing GSU officers beating The Nairobi University students amid protests.
On Thursday, Interiors CS, Joseph Nkaissery ignited a heated debate after he defended the actions of the officers saying it was reasonable according to how the students were acting.
Nkaissery then requested to have the meeting in absence of the students but the chair intervened.
The security chief, however, denied allegations that police officers went into the school compounds and flushed out students from their hostels, library and dining hall.
Nonetheless, the committee members accused the CS of being elusive and not giving enough information.
In turn, Nkaissery asked the committee to invite the Inspector General of police and the IPOA officials together with him to appear at a later date to respond to the petition.
Earlier, IPOA led by chair, Macharia Njeru also appeared before the committee alleging victimisation and infringement of the rights of the students.
They lamented that IG has become a stumbling block by refusing to cooperate with them in the investigations.
