President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have described the late Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery as a man who forever wanted to see a peaceful Kenya.

The two who spoke at the late CSs requiem mass at the Nairobi Baptist Church along Ngong Road on Thursday said the departed former senior military officer will be remembered for his dedication to see Kenya hold peaceful polls in August.

“General Nkaissery was not only a man of dignity, but he was also loyal and most importantly dedicated to a peaceful Kenya,” said Uhuru.“The cleanup he did in that ministry (Interior) is something I will never forget.”

He said at one point he hinted to Nkaissery how he planned to retire in active politics after serving his second term in office only for the late CS to tell him that he would be happy if they retired together in 2022.

Ruto said Nkaissery was a peace loving Kenyan who desired to see the country conduct a nonviolent vote in August.

“I was with Nkaissery at Uhuru Park during the prayer rally and when [Secretary to the Cabinet] Joseph Kinyua called me to break the news, it was unbelievable,” he said.

“Nkaissery wanted Kenya to have a peaceful election, and because it was his wish, let us give it to him and conduct a peaceful election.”Nkaissery will be laid to rest on Saturday at his ancestral home in Ilbisil, Kajiado County.

Among those in attendance at the requiem mass was US Ambassador to Kenya Robet Codec.
