Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has lost some powers transferred to the Office of the President.
This follows a raft of changes made by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to streamline the ministry's activities to make it become more efficient in service delivery.
In the changes, President Kenyatta moved the National Intelligence Service and National Counter-Terrorism Service departments which were previously under the Cabinet Secretary to his office.
In the new move, even the National Security Council and the National Security Advisory Committee which are responsible for making key security decisions were also moved to the Office of the President.
This has left the Interior Ministry with few functions with the powerful ones taken away.
This will now see Mr Nkaissery manage operations of the Police, National Police Service Commission, NACADA, Kenya Citizens and Foreign Service, IPOA and Betting Control and Licensing Board.
Other notable departments that were moved to the Office of the President include; Office of the Deputy President, Vision 2030, Directorate of National Cohesion and Values, Inspectorate of State Corporations, The President's Delivery Unit, Power of Mercy Committee and State Corporations Advisory Committee.
