On Thursday,  Nkaissery blamed rampant corruption on Kenyans, vindicating police officers who occasionally face corruption allegations from members of the public.

But Bogonko, a Historian and political scientist rebuked Nkaissery’s remarks saying it would tolerate the culture of corruption among police officers.

“With all due respect, I think Nkaissery owes Kenyans an apology. It’s not right to view corruption from one side of the coin," said Bogonko.

"This will even give police officers powers to continue soliciting favors from Kenyans,” he said on Friday morning interview with the reporter.

“Bribery is two-way traffic and all the involved parties and perpetrators should be punished. We know how police compel members of the public especially in our roads to give them cash even if no wrong is committed," added the don.

"When a senior government official denies that, then I see a situation where Kenya is heading to a wrong direction,” he said.

He called for reforms in the police forces arguing that the force was the most corrupt on the planet.

“It’s a serious crime when Mr. Nkaissery defends impunity yet we know that our police force is the most corrupt probably on planet earth. He should have instead addressed corruption which he is also aware of rather than vindicating the officers," said Bogonko.

"He must apologise if at all we want to win the war against corruption,” he added.
