Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has denied claims that he threatened to sack chiefs from opposition strongholds should they be involved in mobilising people to register as voters.
On Friday, opposition leader Raila Odinga warned Nkaissery of unspecified consequences should he sack chiefs found culpable.
Nkaissery was quoted on a section of local media threatening to send chiefs from opposition strongholds packing should they be involved in voter registration exercise.
"I was misquoted because my message to chiefs was clear. I warned chiefs against failing to register people who have attained the required age," he said.
"It is pointless to accuse me over nothing. I will only sack chiefs who will fail to execute their mandate by rallying people to register as voters," he added.
The Retired Major General, who was formerly Odinga's ally, has often faced criticism from a section of opposition leaders over his alleged authoritative methodologies in handling the security docket.
