Internal Security CS Joseph Nkaissery has lauded Cord opposition for calling off its planned mass action protest which were slated for January 4.
Speaking during the burial of veteran Maasai politician John Keen on Friday, Nkaissery intimated that the police were on the alert to counter the opposition leaders and their supporters.
The minister said the leaders had shown leadership.
While responding to Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka on his claims that he Nkaiserry was obsessed with using the police, the CS said he was very ready to handle the opposition during the planned protest.
"I want to thank you Mr Musyoka for calling off the protest. You are the one who taught me about rioting but you made a wise move by calling off the protests, otherwise. Actually, we were prepared for you on the 4th but you have shown leadership and we are going to avoid that," the minister said.
He, however, said anyone who breaks the law will be dealt with according to the law.
Nkaissery further urged politicians to shun divisive politics and instead preach harmony ahead of the 2017 polls.
