Interior Cabinet Secrtary Joseph Nkaisseri will on Thursday spearhead a peace meeting that is expected to eventually give birth to a lasting solution to the perennial problem of border conflicts along the volatile Garissa-Isiolo border.
With the meeting being scheduled to happen in Nanyuki town, both community elders and elected politicians are set to conduct highly deliberative sessions with both sides proposing their recommendations to the security problem that is almost getting out of hand.
Herders from Garissa and Isiolo counties have for long been involved in tussles over grazing lands and water points, especially during the dry seasons.
Only a week ago, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama urged the Northern Kenya politicians to cease from expressing statements that could be interpreted by the warring communities as being defamatory or inciting.
Jama said the leading political classes have a responsibility of promoting unity and peaceful coexistence, which instead of making statements that worsen the situation should strive to unite the communities.
Nathif appealed to the national government to swiftly intervene in order to avert more deaths and even retaliatory attacks.
