Interior Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has confirmed there is a return of illegal Mungiki sect in Nakuru and Kiambu Counties.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on security on Tuesday, Nkainssery said he has received reports from various players and will in two weeks tour Kiambu to hunt the illegal sect.

"I have gathered information that Mungiki sect is slowly crawling back which we won't allow. In two weeks I will convene a meeting with stakeholders from Kiambu County to hunt them to enhance the security of Kenyans," said Nkaissery.

He appeared before the committee led by Tiati MP Asman Kamama after a rise of insecurity reports being made by locals from Kiambu. Last month, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa asked for more security after he received threats from the illegal gang which made him take the issue to parliament.

He said that Mungiki insurgence is working with a politician he didn't disclose to put his life in danger. The illegal sect which was formerly linked to Maina Njenga, now a pastor, terrorized Kenyans in several areas making the former Security Minister, the late John Michuki start a special operation to eradicate the heinous acts leading to their end.

The return of the sect is a major challenge especially when Kenya is fighting Al Shabab militants in Somalia who are hitting hard on Kenyan territory.
