Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has dismissed claims that the government is planning to rig the forthcoming general election.
Nkaissery, instead, said the government is intent on providing a level playing field for all parties as they ready for the August 8 elections.
"We all need a credible election for the sake of unity among Kenyans. We will be defending the presidency and therefore, we will be hitting the campaign trail like our friends in the opposition," he added as quoted by the Star.
He made the remarks at Maasai Technical Training Institute where he met with chiefs and their assistants.
Speaking at the meeting, he decried the low turnout in the ongoing mass voter registration and tasked chiefs and their assistants to rally residents in the exercise.
"In the last three days of mass voter registration, only 6,321 people have been [listed]. The government is providing you with transport and airtime yet you are sitting there idle and not helping in the registration of voters. What do you think you are when earning money from the same government?" he told the administrators.
Nkaissery at the same time warned chiefs perceived to be opposition sympathisers that they will be sacked.
He said he was aware of such administrators and asked the county commissioners to profile them even as the forthcoming elections draw nigh.
Similar meetings have been planned for Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok and Kisii counties.
