Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has cautioned political hopefuls against using violence during party primaries.
He also warned the aspirant’s bodyguards against misusing their firearms in the ongoing nominations exercise.
Nkaissery stated the government would punish those who interfere with the security of Kenyans and asked those participating in the polling exercise to resist from taking law into their own hands.
“The government will decisively deal with anybody who threatens the security of our citizens. Make no mistake about our resolve on this,” Nkaissery said.
The CS confirmed 17 people who were involved the electoral malpractices have been detained.
“The government is resolute in dealing with this and we shall be consulting with the IEBC with a view to having those candidates found culpable of such malpractices disqualified,” he said, Monday during a press conference.
Nkaissery’s sentiment comes just a few days after ODM party accused police of ‘overprotecting’ Jubilee strongholds and sidelining the opposition turfs.
