Kajiado governor David Nkedianye and his close rival and former interior CS Joseph Lenku had a slight war of words which precipitated Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to intervene when giving his speech.
The two leaders had attended burial of veteran politician John Keen in Namanga when Lenku accused the incumbent of underdevelopment and discrimination of some areas in the region.
In a quick rejoinder, Nkedianye maintained that his government was on the right track and challenged Lenku to wait till 2022 elections.
Nkedianye’s remarks did not go down well with Nkaissery, who insisted that only God knows the destiny of human beings.
“It is only God who knows where you will be in 2022. I don’t think even my good mentor (John Keen) knew that he won’t make it to 2017. Let us sometimes be sober when talking,” he said.
“The two of you go to people and ask for mandate and the winner should be respected. We want peaceful campaigns this coming year,” added Nkaissery.
The incumbent is expected to defend his seat on ODM ticket while Lenku is seeking Jubilee Party ticket.
