Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has asked National Land Commission to step in and resolve the numerous land tussles that have hit Nakuru County recently.
Speaking on Monday in Bahati, Ngunjiri said there are expansive tracts of land owned by political big wigs and they should be audited.
“The National Land Commission should come here and do a comprehensive land audit on the political bigwigs who own huge parcels of land in Nakuru because these are the people who have caused the upsurge of violence being seen by people as they fight for land,” he said.
His call to the Mohammed Swazuri led commission comes in the wake of rising cases of violence in the county following land disputes with the latest being at Ngogongeri in Njoro-Molo border.
Ngunjiri also said it was wrong to have people living as IDPs yet there is land which they can be given to settle them but it has been taken away by powerful people who cling on to it.
“We have IDPs who have no land and they are the people who are incited to unleash violence. Let us have all these people owning huge parcels of land audited and if they are found guilty of land grabbing, the land should be given to its rightful owners,” said the MP.
