Nakuru residents have a reason not to worry about high levels of water in the three major lakes after the County`s Metrological department reassured that the situation is due to the high level of rainfall being witnessed at the moment.

Speaking at the Naivasha County Lodge during a Metrological retreat on Tuesday, the department blamed the heavy rainfall saying that nobody should be worried as the situation was short term.

County Assistant in the department Peter Macharia noted that the situation was normal saying that everything was under control.

“As a department, we are aware of the uneasy situation to the residents living near Lakes Nakuru, Elmentaita and Naivasha fearing that the banks might burst,” he said.

He further noted that that neighbouring areas were also experiencing the same situation giving an example of River Njoro but further asserted that all systems were in place in case of any calamity.

“All that is happening is attributed to the high amounts of rain being experienced in Nakuru and all nearing arrears from where all our lakes` inlets come from but that should not sent any shivers to anyone,” Mr Macharia explained.

The three day retreat is aimed at initiating both long-term and short-term measures that the County needs to always reconsider during the changing weather seasons.
