Machakos minister for health Naomi Mutie has refuted claims that there is cholera in the county.
Mutie said this on Monday while she was touring Mavoko and Yatta sub-counties, accompanied by other health officials.
She said that people who had been diagnosed with the disease in Ndalani ward, Yatta sub-county came from Kitui and not Machakos.
The official said that Mavoko residents who were suffering from cholera got it from intake of contaminated water. She revealed that the samples that had been sent to Nairobi for examination were all negative.
"The people in Matuu Hospital diagnosed with cholera were from Kitui and they were treated and went home," she said.
