Crime in Molo sub-county has gone down courtesy of Nyumba Kumi initiative, a senior police officer has said.
Molo administration police commander Joseph Mwangi said area residents had been very active in community policing, adding that officers have been conducting regular patrols to shut down bars and entertainment joints that operate on extended hours.
“Residents have been embracing the Nyumba Kumi initiative and community policing by reporting criminals to the police,” said Mwangi.
Confirming the report, Molo Traders Association chairman Charles Marioko said that this is the first time for Molo residents to celebrate Christmas peacefully.
“For the first time in many years, Molo sub-county has experienced a peaceful festive season and zero rate criminal activities; we hope the trend will continue,” said Marioko.
Traders in Molo have commended the police for the zero criminal activities in the area.
The traders attributed the peace experienced during the December holiday as a result of regular stakeholders meeting conducted by Nakuru County commissioner Mohamed Birik and the county security committee.
In the past years, armed gangsters used to terrorise residents during the festive season.
