The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has urged the striking lecturers not to relent until their demands are addressed.
Speaking at the parliament premises when University Academic Union staff presented their petition to members of parliament Wednesday, Sossion said that the issue of frequent strikes by the dons has to be solved once and for all to prevent such scenarios in the future.
''Don't give up and do not call off this strike until the matter is conclusively solved by the university management,'' Sossion, who also doubles up as a nominated MP, is quoted by the Star.
The strike which entered its sixth day Wednesday has left students in over 31 public universities unattended to with the lecturers pushing for the implementation of their 2013/2017 collective bargaining agreement which was to see them receive 17.3% basic salary increase and a further 3.9% in-house allowance.
Sossion further called upon Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi to intervene in the matter.
He urged Matiangi to stop hiding behind the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations and address the issue.
''Dr. Matiangi, come back from wherever you are. This is the biggest disaster. You cannot purport to be supervising KCSE exams when graduates cannot proceed to universities,'' he is further quoted.
