It has been a long process when dealing with international criminals when they arrested in Kenyan airports but this will no longer be an issue.
This is because the first ever airport court has been opened at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport (JKIA) enabling swift justice.
This court should make work much easier for the Kibera and Madaraka courts which deal with at least over 300 cases of airport cases which becomes overwhelming for the courts at times.
The airport will serve both JKIA and the Wilson Airport and plans are that it will soon be made a 24-hour court soon as well as work on weekends.
“The delay of cases in our court system has often contributed to some people skipping bail. There is also the destruction of evidence such as what happened when a terminal caught fire at JKIA a few years back,” said Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
This will finally make justice get served faster and fairer as through the court, foreigners or people involved in illegal dealings will go through the normal trials without disruption.
The court will have one magistrate and six members of staff. It will strictly deal with petty issues in the airport and international crimes most importantly.
The only difference with this will be that suspects will now be defending themselves in an airport court.
