Daniel Kamanza Molo OCPD on Thursday issued the ban saying any trader found selling Sachang'wan and Total trading centers will be arrested and charged in court.

"Any hawkers found hawking food stuffs and other items along the busy highway will be dealt with accordingly. Hawkers are advised to avoid the highway," he said.

The OCPD said they arrived at the decision following increased deaths along the highway where pedestrians have been hit by vehicles using the road.

"The ban on hawkers along the highway will help curb accidents caused when vehicles hit pedestrians. The ban takes effect from today Thursday, March 1," he added.

He added that last week a trader identified as Mercy Chepkerui who was selling sugarcane died after she was run over by a trailer as she was selling to a motorist who had parked at the side of the road.
