As the August 8, polls draw to a close, police officers in Central Kenya may have to forfeit their planned vacation after a majority of them were recalled from their leave.

The cancellations have been confirmed by Central regional police commander Mr Larry Kieng'.

"All officers who were on leave have been recalled with immediate effect and all leave requests have been suspended. This is a measure to ensure we deploy adequate security personnel for the campaigns during elections and after," said Kieng'.

County police commanders from all departments in the central region have been instructed to recall all the officers with immediate effect and cancel all leave requests.

This seen by the force as a strategy to beef up security in readiness to the August 8, General elections.
