Education CS Fred Matiangi has said the ministry will not open satellite campuses that were closed down over not meeting the requirements for operation.
Speaking in Nairobi when he met Vice Chancellors of public universities on Wednesday, Matiangi said the levels of education in the country were not to be compromised, adding that any operating university must first meet the quality threshold set by his ministry.
He added that the various managements of universities must initiate structures that ensure students get the desired quality and relevant education.
“It is the policy of the government now. We will not allow as a ministry the opening up of satellite campuses anywhere in the country," he said.
"Concentrate on developing your main institutions, put resources there. Let us be honest if we want to advance the quality of our education in our country,” he added.
Matiangi said his ministry has embarked on the gruesome task of reforming universities and promised to pursue these reforms until the rot in the institutions is cleaned.
