Nairobi residents will not enjoy train services within the city and its environs during this festive season.

This after Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) suspended the services of Nairobi commuter train for more than a week starting from Saturday.

In a public notice published on Friday, the corporation, without giving clear reasons why the services were called off, said the services will resume early next year.

"We wish to notify you that the Nairobi commuter train (Kikuyu, Embakasi, Ruiru, and Syokimau) will not run as from December 23, 2017 and will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2018," KRC notified the passengers.

In a notice, the corporation however said the Standard Gauge Railway services remain uninterrupted.

"The SGR link remains operation during the said period," KRC added.

The cheaper commuter train plies the Dandora, Ruiru, Githurai, Kikuyu, Kibera, Embakasi, Imara Daima, Makadara, Umoja and Soykimau estates.

It charges between Sh40- Sh60 with its 10 coaches carrying between 150 and 170 passengers per trip.
