Police officers in Nairobi will leave no compromise to security matters in the city when President Uhuru Kenyatta is sworn in for his second term on Tuesday.

This is according to Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome.

Speaking at a media conference on Saturday, Koome said that as an effort to curb lawlessness they had marked as "red zones" areas to be blocked on the material day starting early morning.

He said there will be a multi-agency crackdown to secure areas of Uhuru Highway, Mombasa Road, Museum Hill and Aga Khan as well as the Wangare Maathai Road and Thika Superhighway from town to the Kasarani Stadium.

"This is a historical day for our country...Let is ensure it succeeds. We are expecting many international visitors and many heads of state and government," Koome told a press conference on Saturday.

"The visitors will move from JKIA to various places. Motorists must cooperate so there is smooth flow of traffic to various places."

"Anybody causing trouble along the red zones will be dealt with. Nothing will affect the security of heads of state," he added.

With Uhuru Highway under the radar, Opposition NASA will have to seek an alternative venue for their rally which had been scheduled for the material day at Uhuru Park.

Among the key events of the NASA rally was a planned swearing in of Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
