Addressing Thika residents on Wednesday, Uhuru said he will not allow any individual or party to hold the country at ransom in next year's polls.

"We want an election that will enable Kenyans to form the government that they want and nobody will prevent that," stated Uhuru.

The President added: "Kenyans are tired of retrogressive politics propagated by the opposition and attempts to delay elections to get ‘nusu-mkate’ will not work."

He assured Kenyans that the forthcoming elections will be free, fair and peaceful.

"August next year, Kenyans expect an open and transparent general election. As government, we will ensure that the two (openness and transparency) are observed in the national polls,” Uhuru said.

The Jubilee head also warned politicians against putting their selfish interests before those of Kenyans by trying to incite them to violence.

"The elections are for over 40 million Kenyans not just a few people who want to advance their narrow and selfish intentions," he added.
