Politicians in the country have been warned against conducting their campaigns near learning institutions.Speaking in Changamwe on Monday, Alternative Provision for Basic Education and Training (APBET) secretary general Juma Mohammed Lubambo said political rallies are interfering with the already affected school curriculum.Lubambo said APBET as an umbrella association of community schools which help children from less fortunate families and orphans receive education was experiencing major problems since majority of political rallies are being conducted near or inside learning institutions. He gave an example of Changamwe and Jomvu Constituencies in Mombasa, saying majority of schools in the area especially those which double up as children homes were the most affected.Lubambo cautioned security personnel against permitting politicians to hold rallies in learning institutions.“We understand that the campaign season has affected learning activities. However, we do not want this to go on as we will ban all politically rallies from being conducted near learning institutions and orphanages,” said Lubambo. He lauded teachers and guardians from Vision of Hope Academy in Miritini for banning political rallies in the institution.“It is our duty to protect our children, politics are for politicians and not for children in schools,” he added.
