Kenya will never go for a general election with the current Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as constituted, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has said.

The electoral body is under increasing pressure from the opposition coalition, Cord, to quit from office based on partiality allegations.

Speaking to the reporter on Thursday via phone, Mr Bosire said the commission had no ‘moral’ authority to hold credible elections in the country and vowed to continue with planned protests against IEBC commissioners.

“I want to make it clear that Kenya will never go for an election with this electoral body. They are clearly compromised by Jubilee government and we cannot be hoodwinked anymore by them,” he said.

“We want credible elections that can be accepted by either side of political divide but the current commission has shown its incompetence which we cannot allow any more. They have to leave office because as opposition, we will continue pushing with our protests as planned,” he added.

Bosire accused the government of defending IEBC alleging that they had a wider plan to rig presidential elections in 2017 in favor of incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The government is busy defending their accomplice in crime. They are planning to rig elections but that cannot be allowed. Jubilee must come out and join us in calling for the disbandment of the body if at all they love our country because as opposition, we cannot allow elections under IEBC’s watch,” Bosire said.

The electoral body is scheduled to hold a press conference later on Thursday on what is believed to be a response to opposition.
