ODM leaders in Mombasa have vowed to take part in NASA’s countrywide anti-IEBC demonstrations on October 26, the date of the repeat presidential polls.Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Mombasa, the ODM leaders asked residents in the coastal city not to take part in next week’s polls in solidarity with other NASA supporters.“According to the position taken by NASA, we would like to ask our people in Mombasa not to participate in this election because it would be a joke to our country,” said Mjambere MCA Fahad Kassim.The MCAs who converged at the Mombasa County Assembly building also asked youth who have been recruited as IEBC officials to give the exercise a wide berth.“We also ask our boys and girls to keep away from the training being conducted by the IEBC. Mombasa County will remain a NASA stronghold and we will always preach peace to our country,” he added.The leaders blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the political stalemate being witnessed in the country, arguing that he has been unable to handle various issues as a President.“Uhuru should watch this space because it is not a joke and he should be the first person to respect the constitution,” said Airport MCA Ibrahim Oyugi.The Jubilee administration under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have however maintained that the elections will proceed as planned.Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang’in a gazette notice today (Thursday), declared October 26, 2017, a public holiday allow Kenyans vote in the fresh presidential elections.
