Former Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has explained why he turned down a proposal to become the next Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair.
According to Wabukala, despite retiring from a religious leader position, his main focus has always been to serve God and he has no intentions of mixing it with politics.
"I am okay with the work I am doing now, my mandate is to pray for the nation," said Wabukala during an interview with Radio Citizen.
The former ACK boss further revealed that the Jubilee lawmakers who had proposed his name for the chair of IEBC are yet to consult him despite making the announcement public.
Wabukala has urged legislators mandated to constitute a new IEBC to cast their net much wider in looking for commissioners to take over once the current body has formally vacated office.
"The person to lead IEBC should be well qualified and able to manage elections to ensure a credible process," said Wabukala.
Last week, a section of Jubilee MPs led by Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria urged Wabukala to take over the mantle from Issack Hassan because he had all the desired qualities.
Kuria said that Wabukala was a neutral person with high levels of integrity, aspects that made him qualified for the job.
