Education cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has issued a ban on student transfers from schools involved in strikes saying transfers will have to be accompanied by clearance letter by Sub-county Directors of Education.

Speaking in Kisii, he said the directive is to curb riotous students from spreading the same vices to other schools a measure to tame school arrests.

He was in Kisii to inspect and access the extent of the damage caused by students in Itero Boys High school.

He said the government will not chip into destruction's caused by students saying students and parents of Itero will bear the cost of reconstructing the school.

It is alleged the students went on rampage and burnt down 10 dormitories after being denied to watch a football match.

A number of them have so far been arrested and helping in investigations.

He further gave the County Directors of Education and the teachers service commission 48 hours to submit a joint report on the cases of student unrest across the country so that appropriate action will be taken.

Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary reinstated that the ministry will not fund reconstruction of structures brought down by the students and the community.
