The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) has finally appointed a five-person team that will oversee their search for corporate sponsors ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The five team member unveiled on Friday, December 8 include; Caroline Ndungu (Marketing Director Barclays Bank) Emma Miliyo (President Architect Society of Kenya) Donald Kipkorir (Lawyer) Peter Gicheru (IMG Communication) and Mohammed Nyaega (Lawyer).
The Marketing and Fundraising Committee has been tasked to guide the management of Nock funds as the national body strives to redeem itself from corruption scandals that has tainted its name.
Presiding over the exercise was, Paul Tergat, the new NOCK president alongside other senior officials including Second Deputy vice-president Waithaka Kioni, Secretary General Francis Kinyili Paul and Deputy Secretary Francis Mutuku.
Mr Tergat placed his faith on the team to deliver and urged them to be accountable.“We want a vibrant and open national Olympic body and the support we get from the government and goodwill corporate must be accounted for and nobody should tolerate misuse of funds,” stated Tergat.
However, he clarified that the Government has yet to communicate over the KSh500 million kitty it had promised ahead of the Games that will be held in Gold, Australia in April 4-15.
“Things have stalled because of the political tensions but hopefully next year we will make an announcement,” he said.
