Nominated MCA Margret Kiiru has criticised the recent bonding retreat in Mombasa by Members of the Nakuru County Assembly and the executive as waste of public resources.
Speaking on Sunday in Nakuru town during a church service, Kiiru said the county is grappling with a cash crisis and therefore the retreat was not necessary.
Her remarks come at a time when the MCAs, the Public Service Board members and the executive are under fire for allegedly spending Sh25 million on the bonding retreat in Mombasa.
Kiiru said the five-day joint retreat comes at a time when Nakuru County has been cash constrained.
“The county is grappling with a budget deficit yet the MCAs went on a tour that had no value to the development of the county,” said Kiiru.
She alleged that the issues affecting youth have not been addressed and the money should have been used to help them.
“The money spend should have been used for development issues especially on addressing problems affecting youth,” said Kiiru.
The MCA said the county has other key priorities which should take precedence and the trip was a waste of public resources.
However, the MCAs who participated in the retreat have defended it saying it was a working trip which would offer them an opportunity to engage the executive on how to enhance service delivery.
