A member who did not want to be identified in fear of a possible backlash said the nominated members feel sidelined and that they should have equal pay as they also represent various special groups in the society.
“I am appealing to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to re-visit the matter because we are representing respective groups in the society, which makes us equal with the elected MCAs,” he said.
The MCAs had congregated at the Assembly for their orientation that is supposed to guide their conduct and behavior in the assembly.
Nyamira County Assembly clerk Daniel Orina urged the elected MCAs to always conduct themselves with decorum and respect the office that they hold.
“All MCAs should be responsible in whatever that they do because they are the mirror of the society,” he said.
The Sarah Serem led commission is expected to face a sustained onslaught when National Assembly and County Assemblies resume sittings after the commission slashed their allowances.
Some MPs led by Gladys Wanga have indicated that they will challenge the commission’s new salaries scheme.
In the July circular, the commission outlined that members of County Assembly will receive a monthly salary of Sh144, 375, a car loan of Sh 2 million and a mortgage of up-to Sh 3 million as well as Sh 3,000 for each member who sits at the assembly committee.
Committee chairmen will take home Sh 5,000.
