Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, Elachi said she will be targeting to unseat Paul Simba Arati who is currently the MP for Dagoretti North.

The majority whip at senate remarked that being a woman and a leader as well is a challenge to most Kenyan women.

"It is hard a woman to lead people in a community. It has not been easy me as a leader but I have dedicated most of my time to give back to the community. In 2017, I will vie for Dagoretti MP seat," she noted.

"If elected, I will ensure the people of Dagoretti North gets good jobs. Youths from the area will also have opportunities to go to schools since most youths from the area have dropped out of schools," she said.

Addressing the move by president Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to unite 12 political parties, she said that if at all Jubilee will work, democracy must be there otherwise there will be more defections from Jubilee if some members miss being nominated.

She argued that uniting 12 parties to one party will also reduce expenses during the nomination processes.
