Wiper Democratic Movement nominated senator, Judith Sijeny presented a bill that seeks increase the number of female legislators in the country's parliamentary positions. The bill, which has received support from the likes of Attorney General Githu Muigai and Gender Affairs CS, Sicily Kariuki seeks to achieve the 2/3 majority vote that will enable it to pass to the president who will append his signature making it a law. However, the National Assembly is taking too long to deal with this bill. The bill that was supposed to have been passed by early May still is confined to the parliamentary buildings with the lack of quorum being the main excuse for failing to pass the bill. This is a clear indication that the current team of male legislators does not want to accept the competition from female legislators who have proven to be stronger in some areas of the country. The legislators have decided to work on the bill on August 23 and they should strive to reach the 43 majority out of the possible 67 number of senators required to pass the bill. The country needs to overcome the current male dominance in the political sphere. This will go a long way in ensuring equity of parliamentary positions in the government.
