A nominated senator has told single mothers to take advantage of the money issued through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty to educate their children.
Millicent Omanga who unsuccessfully contested for the Nairobi Women Representative seat said on Monday that the kitty is meant for people from humble backgrounds to benefit from and single mothers should thus apply for the bursary for their kids.
She made the remarks at Embakasi Central constituency where she accompanied area Member of Parliament Benjamin Mwangi in giving out bursary fund cheques to close to 4,000 students.
"I encourage women and mostly single mothers, youth and the disabled to apply for the fund which will help them in educating their children," Omanga, a close political ally of Deputy President William Ruto said.
She said Nairobi, because of its status as the capital city and its class of people has one of the highest number of single women in the country.
She said education, in her programmes, will always be a priority as she knows the importance of an educated population to development.
Omanga who was defeated by ODM's Esther Passaris in the race for the Nairobi Women Rep position has been busy launching development projects in Nairobi.
