Hundreds of non-local teachers from border schools including Hulugho, Fafi, Ijara, and Dadaab areas have been redeployed, these education stakeholders say may be receipt of disaster as idle children may join the terror group.
Teachers Service Commission has also given transfer letters to local teachers to swap places with their non-local teachers however they also resisted the move saying they are also not immune to the terror group.
TSC has also transferred teachers from Wajir and Mandera following the killing of two teachers in Qarsa Primary in Wajir county town weeks ago, Somalia based terror group have been targeting non-local government employees along Kenya Somalia border.
The teachers argued that they have been working under harsh conditions with not enough tutors in their school with little pay and sending them to far-flung areas with insecurity will double punishment.
Kenya Secondary School Head association (KSSHA) secretary Garissa chapter Mr. Khalif Issack said schools along the border face closure if something not urgent is not done.
"County government can improve the current education crises in Garissa by sponsoring local students to pursue P1 teaching courses on the holiday based program, this will help avert the mass exodus of non-local teachers from the region," said Issack.
Local leaders led by National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale have condemned the Teachers Service for transferring teachers from the region saying the move was discriminatory since every child has a right to education.
Mr. Duale, however, supported teacher's employer's decision to redeploy teachers within the county saying local teachers should sacrifice to teach areas along the border. He said, "all Northeastern leaders will have a meeting with Teachers Service Commission boss Nancy Macharia on Monday to discuss the way forward on education matters in the region."
The majority leader who is also Garissa Township lawmaker said Kenya government is determined to get rid of al-Shabaab militia adding that all government security agencies including Kenya defense forces are fighting terror group.
Hulugho ward representative Adow Omar said the government has been insensitive to parents and students in the region say they have been deprived of their education by sending teachers elsewhere.
"We demand immediate solutions because the government is punishing parents and their children, the government should look for alternative ways to ensure children are taught," he said.
