The Kenya Red Cross has already evacuated willing non-locals from Jima area in Lamu County after the recent al Shabaab attack that left at least six dead on Friday night.
The residents rescued are now camping at the Witu AIC Church in Witu located 22 kilometres away.
The victims, all of whom were men, were reportedly butchered using knives.
“The 15 militants raided Jima and Pandanguo villages and killed nine men. They were slaughtered like chicken using knives. Something similar to what happened in Mpeketoni in 2014. We suspect there are many bodies that haven’t been recovered,” said a police source as reported by the Star.
Jima Village is located two kilometres from Pandanguo where the militants attacked a police station killing three officers Wednesday morning.
Over 200 militants attacked the Pandanguo Police Post in Lamu West, engaging police in a fierce gun battle that went on for over seven hours.
