Njoro Sub County Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Noor has denied claims of any government officers selling relief food to internally displaced persons in Njoro and Molo constituencies.
Speaking in Mau on Friday, Noor said that although he cannot deny the claims fully he cannot say that he knows those officers involved in the selling of relief food.
Noor said that his office is investigating claims which were made by Njoro MP Joseph Kiuna.
He further said that any government officer found selling food will be dealt with according to the law.
“There are claims that some chiefs and their assistants have been selling relief food in Njoro and Molo but I want to say that I have not received the complaints formally,” noted Noor.
Noor added that he heard the report through media and they have launched the investigations into the matter.
“The food should be given to the needy and it is illegal to sell it. Those who are selling and buying it are committing a crime and they should be in jail,” said Noor.
Early this week, Kiuna claimed that chiefs were selling relief food meant for IDPs and called on the government to investigate the matter.
