Normalcy and calm has resumed in Kisumu as businesses reopened amid calls for peace from the government, local leaders and the church.
Civil servants reported back on duty while major supermarkets and banks that remained shut for days reopened.
Public transport to and from Kisumu has also resumed after all roads that were blocked following the post-election demonstrations were cleared.
Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega Monday morning urged all government workers to recommence duty arguing that adequate security has been installed to make sure they go about their responsibilities uninterrupted.
The Administrator observed that calm had been restored in all the areas that were affected by the demos adding that police were staying vigil to deal with any occurrences.
He said goons infiltrated the protests where they looted and destroyed property adding that 16 people are under arrested in Kisumu, Homabay and Siaya and will be arraigned in court.
The media, he said, must desist from all forms of sensational journalism adding that the blanket allegations on social media were building unnecessary tension.
“We should put the elections behind us and wade ahead. Any aggrieved parties should engage the established legal system to have their grievances addressed."
