Mandera Governor Ali Roba has said that majority of the residents of this part of the nation will vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto during the forthcoming general polls.
Speaking on Sunday, Roba said that leaders of the National Super Alliance(NASA) should not expect much from his county when that time comes, adding that he will trounce his opponents with a huge margin.
“This county is purely Jubilee and I want to tell our opponents that we will beat them hands down in the polls,” said Roba, as quoted by Standard.
The governor also said that residents of Mandera will vote for leaders with exemplary performance scoreboard like himself and not basing on tribes.
“People will be elected based on their performance and not their clans or tribe. The campaigns must be about the agenda we have for our people and not about rotating leadership,” said Roba.
The governor has insisted the council of elders will not play any role in the August elections. This comes after the formation of Economic Freedom Party (EFP), which is mainly aimed at pushing for the agenda of the elders.
Isaac Hassan Abey, EFP chair, has said that the party will not conduct nominations because they are too costly, adding that they will stick to the elders choice.
“It is very expensive to conduct party nominations in Mandera. It costs over Sh20 million for an MP to prepare for the nominations,” Mr Abey said.
