The politicians alleged that a handshake was key to social and economic developments in the region.

Led by the Dadaab MP Dr Mohammed Dahiye, the vocal leaders disclosed that President Uhuru Kenyatta had set precedence with the NASA leader Raila Odinga in embracing the golden handshake and so it was also in order for them to further the peace movement.

Speaking to this writer, Dahiye said he had eventually agreed to end his political rivalry with the IGAD Secretary General Eng Mahboud Maalim.

"In line with President Kenyatta's call to embrace handshake,I have decided to reconcile and extend a handshake to my brother IGAD Secretary-General and the Kenya Power lighting company Chairman Eng. Mahboub Maalim months after a highly divisive electioneering period," said Dahiye.

Dahiye and Maalim both pledged to unite their families and political sects in a move geared towards the progress of the marginalized region.
